Azaleas
Acrylic on canvas, 20” x 24” x 7/8”
This painting started with just mark making and I had to look at it for awhile to see where it would go. I coaxed it into a loose floral with some variety of blooms and a bit of greenery and stems. Just enough to lure you into that garden and take a closer look.

This abstract floral is a stretch for me. It is the only one I have done since my COVID stay at home “art retreat”. I have been taking an online art class since January about how to paint more freely and it has opened up my style and my love of painting so much more. I have finally found a way to paint intuitively, meaning that you follow the painting where it leads. This painting WANTED to be a floral, those big white and pink shapes just called out for it. It took just a bit of tweaking from the underpainting to guide it where it wanted to go. It makes me happy to see these beautiful abstract flowers. Can you smell them?
