Shadow Reflections
Acrylic on watercolor paper mounted on wood panel, 18” x 24” x 1.5”
If you look closely at this piece you can see a shadow of two faces looking at eachother, getting ready for a kiss. In the first round of paint the two faces actually met. I had to work some blue paint through the middle to separate the shadow faces and created a sense of longing and intimacy in this piece. Although it has some energetic movement and some pops of color it engages me in a peaceful way.

I decided to do some Acrylic on Paper instead of canvas or wood and got this amazing piece and then I was faced with how to “frame it”? I am a fan of clean edges and things that are not behind glass ( I feel like glass says look but dont touch!). I really like Art on Canvas with thick sides or wood with thick sides that you put the hanging materials ont he back and its done. You can see the Art and you are not distracted by the “framing” so I tend to create my work on Canvas or Wood panel. So I thought why not get that same look with this piece on paper, so I mounted the paper onto the wood panel and Viola’.
I love the colors and movement of this piece. It is currently hanging in my house and the blue is so striking and the movement of the other parts of the piece really say “abstract” to me. Everyone can look at it and “see” something different. It is interesting how people are wired to “look for” something in a painting, “see” something. When I look at a painting I dont look for a cat or dog or person or house … I look at the shapes, the color, the movement and just the feeling that I get from the piece. Try it sometime go on Pinterest and look at Abstract pieces, where does your eye go, does it move around the piece, what feeling does it elicit? That is what makes Art so special. I have Art all over my walls and it makes me happy to walk around and just enjoy the piece and the memory or feeling it brings.
