Merlot Dream

Acrylic and mixed media on canvas, 15” x 30” x 1.5”

My husband came up with the name for this lovely piece. I just had to try to use this color, the dusty rose, mauve on the border of gray color that came out so well in this piece. After the initial mark making I had to figure out how to design the piece, where would the main interest be, how could I balance the piece. I wanted that strong Magenta color. At first I was afraid the larger section looked like the continent of Africa. After some playing around and line making and color adjustment and staring at it for days it finally got pulled together. When my husband suggested “Merlot Dream” as the name I jokingly said I could do a full series of paintings based on wine names and call the series “wineing for Art” or “Art under the influence” hmmm who knows might still use those for a future project! Take in this great color, let it wash over you while you sip your Merlot!
